Dubai, UAE: UAE-based Gloria Hotel and Yassat Gloria Hotel and Apartments have been awarded Green Globe Certification (GGC) for the first time, for reducing their water and electricity consumption, according to an official release. The properties have reportedly saved AED 4.16 million on their respective electricity and water bills in the process, along with making improvements on their carbon footprint per occupied room, and reduction in food and waste through the modification of their recycling programmes.

The announcement added that the two properties have received scores of 73% and 75%, respectively after an audit was carried out by UAE-based Farnek.

Freddy Farid, Area General Manager of Gloria Hotels and Resorts, said: “Saving four million dirhams is clearly substantial and underscores the correlation between sustainability and cost-efficiency. The Green Globe Certification process has systemised our commitment towards sustainability.”

Farid added that that the properties achieved some key milestones, including energy savings of more than 8,580 MWh and 54,000 m3 of water, which is the equivalent of 22 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Carbon emissions, he said, was reduced by 4,400 tonnes “which is the same as flying to London and back four times”.
