Emerson plans summer release for its outdoor refrigeration unit

St Louis, Missouri: Emerson Climate Technologies has revealed that it is in the final stages of launching the latest update to its Copeland Scroll Outdoor Refrigeration Unit (X-Line). The unit, the company added, will be available early summer with improved electronics and serviceability, as well as additional refrigerant options.

The updated X-Line 2.0 units, the announcement said, will come with advanced CoreSense diagnostics and protection and will be able to operate in extreme environmental conditions, including high- and low-ambient temperatures and in coastal regions. It further said that updated units can be applied to service replacements and new installations.

According to the company, the updates include the consolidation of multiple control boards and modules into a single, new electronics module; a CoreSense Diagnostics and CoreSense Protection with on-board error logging of up to 50 time-stamped alarm codes; two-way communication to allow remote diagnostics and management of system operation; and medium-temperature units equipped with Copeland ZS*KA multi-refrigerant scroll compressors.

Ben Picker, Copeland Product Manager of Emerson Climate Technologies, said the addition of multi-refrigerant scroll compressors in the medium-temperature units will allow them to operate using a wide-range of refrigerants, such as R-404A, R-407C/A and R-134a. “New options, approved by the EPA’s Significant New Alternatives Policy programme, like R-448A, R-449A and others,” he said, “will continue to be added as they become available.”

The updated units, the company said, will be available for cooler and freezer applications ranging in size from 1.5 HP to 6 HP and will be produced in Sidney, Ohio, in the United States. It added that the move is intended to help adapt better to the regional requirements of North American customers, including product options and customer lead times.
