Overview
The escalating impact of global air pollution on public health has traditionally focused on respiratory and cardiovascular systems, often obscuring a more insidious, intersectional crisis: The direct link between airborne pollutants and human reproductive health. ‘Filtration & Fertility’ an Online Symposium on Air Quality and Reproductive Health, presented by CPI Industry and chaired by Dr Iyad Al-Attar, is a pivotal two-hour initiative designed to bring this overlooked connection into the spotlight.
The Symposium bridges the microscopic and macroscopic. Using the compelling visual narrative of microscopic intervention protecting a pristine cell (IVF) and comparing it to macroscopic filter media capturing industrial particulates, the event argues that protecting human potential requires a continuous and advanced filtration barrier.
The timing of the Symposium is critical. We are at a convergence point, where public awareness of urban density and health equity is high, but the direct path to reproductive resilience is unmapped. The Symposium, with the participation of global experts in IAQ, air filtration and reproductive health, will move beyond siloed discussions. It will gather a multi-disciplinary panel to forge a comprehensive call to action, relating to public health policy, urban design and building management (building engineering services), ensuring that the air we breathe supports, rather than compromises, the future of human reproduction.
Key Topics
FORMAT
The Symposium is structured as two interconnected sessions:
Session 1: ‘The Impact of Airborne Pollutants on Human Fertility’
The session will explore the complex biological mechanisms and epidemiological data. A keynote by Dr Nahed Hammadieh, Consultant Gynaecologist and Sub-specialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery, will detail how specific pollutants, such as PM2.5 and VOCs, breach biological barriers to degrade sperm and egg quality. The session, chaired by Nick Agopian, President, Reviveaire, will analyse the compounding risks of urban environments.
Session 2: ‘Strategic Mitigation Through Air Filtration and IAQ Governance’
The session pivots from scientific awareness to actionable solutions. Chaired by Mitch McCreary, air filtration stalwart, the session will address advanced engineering strategies, from rethinking HVAC filtration technologies to elevating global building standards like WELL. It will examine the governance necessary to mandate healthy indoor air for the most vulnerable populations, translating awareness into systemic urban resilience.
Delegates
Who should attend?
Clinical Fertility Experts: IVF Laboratory Directors, Clinical Embryologists and Reproductive Endocrinologists dedicated to optimizing in vitro conditions, minimising biological stressors and safeguarding cellular viability.
HVAC and Filtration Professionals: Mechanical Engineers, Air Quality Consultants and Cleanroom Specialists tasked with designing, deploying and validating high-efficiency molecular and particulate filtration systems for critical healthcare environments.
IVF Technology and Equipment Manufacturers: Leaders from IVF laboratory companies and instrument developers whose sensitive scientific equipment – from advanced incubators to laminar flow hoods – relies entirely on a sterile, highly controlled atmospheric environment to function at peak precision.
Healthcare Architects and Facility Management Professionals: Medical Space Planners, Hospital Facility Managers and HVAC Technicians responsible for the operational resilience, spatial layout and rigorous day-to-day maintenance of Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) within biological sanctuaries.
Health Sector Policymakers & Quality Control Specialists: Government Health Officials, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Directors, regulatory standard-setters, and standardisation and certification bodies focused on advancing indoor environmental protocols, legislating “fit-for-purpose” air quality governance and establishing the next generation of clinical safety mandates.
