EDF explores solar, hydro and wind projects across the Middle East

Dubai, UAE, 21 May 2018: EDF Group has identified a diverse range of opportunities in the Middle East region, said Jean-Bernard Levy, Chairman and CEO. Underpinning the company’s presence across the Middle East, Levy said the company has a number of solar, hydro and wind projects in the region, pointing to Saudi Arabia in the particular. “We intend to find the right opportunities… from Egypt to Oman,” he said, stressing that Egypt is another country where EDF has a strong presence. Speaking on the company’s global target, Levy said, “We want to grow capacity in renewable power from 28 to 50 gigawatt by 2040. We are in shape to reach this number.”

EDF, Levy added, is not committing to regional targets but is instead looking to address the consumption needs of the country and the people. “We have several discussions with many leaders in the region,” he said. “[EDF is looking at] everything that will help the planet, including wind, solar and, from time to time, District Heating and Cooling.” Levy added that in view of the United Arab Emirates’ active efforts to advance the penetration of District Cooling, EDF sees a number of opportunities in District Cooling in many countries across the GCC region.
