BSRIA launches ‘Energy storage in buildings – a technology overview’

Guide will help to familiarise readers with the science behind different types of energy storage, organisation says

Bracknell, Berkshire, UK, 22 March 2018: BSRIA, a research and consultancy organisation, owned by The Building Services Research and Information Association, has launched a new publication titled Energy storage in buildings – a technology overview, the organisation announced in a Press communiqué.

According to BSRIA, the guide is a brief introduction to the topic of energy storage in buildings, for use in heating, cooling, hot water and ventilation, as well as power for appliances, lighting and other equipment. The purpose of this guide is to explain the fundamental principles of energy storage and to describe the main system types and the forms that they take, the communiqué said. It sets out to familiarise the reader with the science behind the different types of energy storage, but it is not intended to be a science or engineering textbook, the communiqué added.

According to BSRIA, case studies are included in the book to illustrate how different energy storage technologies have been applied in the past, so that readers can appreciate some of the practicalities involved in energy-storage projects and gain an understanding of how mature the different systems are. The communiqué added that the guide is structured with two main sections dealing with thermal and electrical energy respectively, while subsections address the main types of technology or its applications.
