New guide for pre-commission cleaning of pipework systems replaces AG 1/2001.1
BSRIA has announced launching an updated guide, which incorporates industry feedback from nearly 20 years of flushing and cleaning system using BSRIA’s pre-commission cleaning of pipework guides. It will replace BSRIA’s previous edition – AG 1/2001.1.
The announcement revealed that the guide included information under the following rubrics:
According to BSRIA, thorough pre-commission cleaning of pipework has gained importance with the adoption of energy-efficient controls strategies that may result in low-flow rates, particularly in terminal units with very small orifices in control valves. In this context, the updated guide will provide the latest thinking and good practice cleaning techniques. In particular, it aims to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the parties, improve the exchange of information between them and provide consistency between service offerings of the pre-commission cleaning contractors, the announcement claimed. It further added that pre-commission cleaning is achieved through a process of flushing and chemical cleaning (where required), followed by the addition of biocides and inhibitors. Systems designed and cleaned in accordance with BSRIA’s guidance are far less likely to experience operating problems.
