Event will focus the topic of tackling lifecycle emissions in the MENA region, the Emirates Green Building Council says
DUBAI, UAE, 2 June 2020: The Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC) will be conducting a webinar on embodied carbon, which, it said, will focus on the topic of tackling lifecycle emissions in the MENA region. The webinar will take place on June 8, from 9.30am to 11.30am GST, EmiratesGBC said.
According to the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction’s Global Status Report 2019, 11% of energy and process-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in 2018 was due to the energy used to produce building and construction materials, usually referred to as embodied carbon, the Council said through a Press release, EmiratesGBC said. As operational carbon is reduced, embodied carbon will continue to grow in importance as a proportion of total emissions, it further said. While it is important to address operational carbon, the industry must now rapidly increase efforts to tackle embodied carbon emissions at a global scale, too, it added.
EmiratesGBC said its partner, Bionova Ltd, developer of One Click LCA, will be facilitating the webinar session on embodied carbon and how calculating lifecycle emissions can be essential drivers for carbon reduction. The session, which will see presentations from Panu Pasanen, CEO, Bionova, and Aditi Chitnis, Business Developer, Bionova, will also give an overview of the global impact of embodied carbon and how the MENA region can start progressing towards a net-zero carbon future, EmiratesGBC said. It will also cover the capabilities of Bionova’s software, One Click LCA Planetary, which, EmiratesGBC said, will be offered free-of-charge for UAE companies, as part of the partnership with EmiratesGBC.
