AHRI tracking legislation on HFCs phase downs in four states of the USA

Policies in California, New York, Connecticut and Maryland at different stages of formulation, says AHRI

Arlington, Virginia, USA, 28 February 2019: AHRI is tracking legislation on hydrofluorocarbon (HFCs) phase downs in four states of the USA, the body announced in a Press communiqué.

According to AHRI, in California the stated goal is HFC emission reduction of 40% by 2030. AHRI is working closely with the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and other stakeholders on proposed dates and GWP limits, including collecting financial and market data, the communiqué said.

In New York the stated goal is HFC emission reduction of more than 20% by 2030, the communiqué said. New York intends to wait to see what California does before moving forward, but they hope to finish the plan by sometime next year, the communiqué further said.

In Maryland, there is no HFC-specific target; however there is a state-wide goal of reducing GHG emissions 40% by 2030, the communiqué said.

In Connecticut, the stated goal is to develop regulations to adopt the 2015/16 changes to the federal SNAP regarding HFCs, the communiqué said. Connecticut is still in the early stages of HFC rulemaking and does not have a specific timeline established, the communiqué further said.

According to AHRI, those interested can find the current status, as well as background, of these rulemakings here.
