Claiming that water is more efficient in transferring heat when compared to the refrigerant fluids commonly used in heat pipes, SPC has announced commencing the world-wide launch of its heat pipes, with patent-pending water-filled technology. The company reveals that the technology was developed during a two-year research programme involving SPC and Brunel University, and that it is the only entity offering water heat pipe manufacturing process.
The manufacturer lists the following product features and benefits:
- It is more environmentally friendly than refrigerant-filled heat pipes, as it is Zero ODP (ozone-depleting potential) and zero GWP (global warming potential).

- It transfers heat between airstreams, or between points in the same airstream, as water is more efficient at transferring heat because it has greater fluid thermal conductivity and higher latent heat, both of which minimise temperature drops within the heat pipe.

- Internal temperature differences within the heat pipes are practically zero and it is a thermal super-conductor.
- The heat transfer is achieved via a working fluid that boils and condenses at opposite ends, transferring heat from end to end as it does so.
