Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, 16 February 2020: The Government of Ras Al Khaimah will host the inaugural RAK Energy Summit on June 15 and 16 at Al Hamra International Exhibition and Conference Center, in Ras Al Khaimah, according to a Press release issued by Ras Al Khaimah Municipality. The Summit, to be held in the context of the RAK Energy Efficiency and Renewables Strategy 2040, will aim to enhance dialogue within the industry and cross-learning opportunities across similar strategies in the region and the world, the release said.

The event, to be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, will have two main themes: Energy efficiency and renewable energy, the release said.

Ras Al Khaimah considers energy efficiency and adoption of renewable energy as important drivers for the competitiveness and sustainability of its economy, the release said. To that effect, Ras Al Khaimah Municipality, in 2019, introduced the RAK Energy Efficiency and Renewables Strategy 2040, which targets 30% electricity savings, 20% water savings and 20% renewable energy in the generation mix by 2040. The Strategy, already well underway through a multitude of programmes and initiatives, connects with Federal strategies and supports the UAE’s commitments to climate change mitigation, as part of the UNFCCC, the release said.

According to the release, the Summit will bring together international thought-leaders and trailblazers and decision makers from the government and the private sectors. Participants at the Summit will discuss emerging trends in green buildings, retrofit programmes, efficient mobility, efficient use and reuse of water, solar applications, energy from waste and many other related topics, the release said. Besides presentations and panel discussions, the Summit will hold structured networking sessions and live demonstrations, aimed at creating and contributing to the energy efficiency and renewable energy goals of the future.
