First of all, our congratulations to the winners of the inaugural Climate Control Awards, and our commiserations to those that made it to the threshold.

This issue contains a pictorial of the Awards evening, on November 23 at the Atlantis The Palm, Dubai. Some of you might have expected a full description of the judging process, but bound as we are by a strict confidentiality agreement, we are not in a position to divulge any information. This much we can safely say, though: those that followed to the letter the instructions we issued for each of the categories, earned a nomination; and from there onwards, it was a matter of identifying the best among the nominees.

The Awards signified an important step in the magazine’s continual efforts to provide a prominent platform for the HVACR industry in the region and to encourage technological and business excellence and best practices. Our intent was clearly reflected in the choice of parameters, be it related to environmental stewardship or a vision-filled approach to business growth.

During the years of the construction boom, best practices related to safeguarding the environment and a systematic long-term approach, were at a clear premium. Such was the supply glut of construction projects that the buzz outshouted caution and contemplation. The downturn forced the industry to think hard and presented a golden opportunity to align itself to the best-possible approaches. Those companies that picked up the gauntlet with earnestness and a willingness to establish a roadmap not merely survived but also thrived in the new paradigm. The Awards event, hence, was to celebrate robustness.

With the global economy going through an interesting phase, this robustness is likely to be tested in the coming weeks and months. We wish you success in your efforts and hope you will be able to join us one year hence for the second edition of the Awards.

With Best Wishes for a great 2012!
