USA, May 28: Honeywell has announced the launch of sensor-based connected solutions for the logistics sector. The software offers shippers and logistics companies real-time monitoring of high-value and perishable shipments, the company said through a press communiqué. The technology has been developed in collaboration with Intel and three logistic companies: DHL, Expeditors and Kuehne + Nagel.

Elaborating on the solution, Edmond Mikhael, General Manager of Honeywell SPS (Middle East, Turkey and Africa), said: “The cloud-based solution offers the user detailed analytics on delays, theft, damage, spoilage, and a range of environmental conditions, with the help of the sensor tags that are affixed to the packages. The sensor data is captured by a mobile gateway placed inside a truck or shipping container and then transmitted via cellular networks to a cloud-based command-and-control platform.”

Speaking on Intel’s contribution to the project, Chet Hullum, General Manager for Industrial Solutions at Intel, said: “We have customised our Connected Logistics Platform technology to deliver an IoT offering that solves real logistics problems. With the data visibility, shippers and carriers will be able to establish a more reliable supply chain network by having deeper visibility and information on shipments.”
