The Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) has announced the inaugural class of LEED Fellows, and Mario Seneviratne, Director, Green Technologies, Dubai, a LEED AP and the first LEED Faculty outside the United States, is one of the 34 world’s most distinguished green building professionals selected to be a LEED Fellow. The LEED Fellow is the most prestigious designation awarded by GBCI, and Seneviratne has joined the growing community of accomplished LEED professionals worldwide.
The Fellows were reportedly selected through a peer nomination and portfolio review process. Among other requirements, LEED Fellows must have at least 10 years of green building experience and hold a LEED AP with specialty credential. The programme recognises exceptional contributions to the cause of green buildings. In this context, Seneviratne, who champions the cause of retrofit and has to his credit creditable professional achievements, is significant for the region.
In the context of the announcement of the list of Fellows for 2011, Peter Templeton, President, GBCI, said: “We are thrilled to bestow the LEED Fellow designation upon these highly accomplished individuals. The Fellows are some of the leading innovators and vanguards of the green building movement, and their bodies of work strongly underscore their commitment to LEED and a sustainable built environment.”
