AHRI invites comments from members

AHRI, in a communiqué, has informed that the United Arab Emirates standards and metrology body, ESMA, has issued two draft energy efficiency labelling regulations on June 9.

The communiqué elaborated that the first, UAE .S 5010 -1 : 2014 addresses energy-efficiency-labelling requirements for single-package and split-system, non-ducted air conditioners (ACs). The second, UAE .S 5010 – 5 : 2014 addresses energy-efficiency labelling for commercial and central ACs.

This, said AHRI, included minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for ducted ACs using air- and water-cooled condensers, and ducted air-to-air heat pumps; water-source heat pumps; water-chilling packages; multi-split-system ACs; and air-to-air heat pumps.

AHRI revealed that it intended to comment on the standards, and urged members involved in the region to comment in favour of using AHRI standards rather than ISO standards. In light of this, AHRI has invited industry comments, despite the fact that the UAE notice neither gives a time frame for comment, nor does it specifically ask for comments.

Comments should be sent to ESMA’s engineer Khaled Ali Abdul Majeed at khaledali@esma.ae, AHRI informed, and added that it would appreciate a copy of the comments sent. AHRI also suggested that Jim Walters could be contacted at jwalters@ahrinet.org.

AHRI added that it was trying to arrange a meeting with ESMA and would keep members informed of any further developments in this regard.
