DUBAI, UAE, 19 September 2019: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has started pilot connection of its District Cooling service to The Address Residences Jumeirah Resort and Spa, located in the Dubai Marina district, the District Cooling utility said through a Press release. The total capacity of District Cooling service to the project will be 6,500 tonnes of refrigeration upon completion, the release said.
According to the release, the project has three key components: ‘The Address Jumeirah Resort and Spa’ with 183 rooms and suites; ‘The Address Residences Jumeirah Resort and Spa’, comprising serviced apartments; and ‘The Residences Jumeirah Dubai’. The building consists of 77-storey twin towers, and a lobby links the two towers, spanning a total of 257,000 square metres, the release said.
According to the release, Empower connected the project to its permanent plant located in Jumeirah Beach Residences (JBR). “The Address Residences Jumeirah Resort and Spa is one of the leading real estate projects in Dubai, and we are pleased to take part in its development by providing environmentally friendly district cooling systems that save 50% less energy compared to conventional cooling systems,” said Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO, Empower.
According to the release, the hotel sector is one of the major ones that adopts District Cooling, because it helps achieve significant savings in construction cost and energy consumption, as well as maintenance and operation. The company provides District Cooling services to Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Jumeirah Al Naseem JW Marriott Marquis Dubai Towers, Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel and Royal Atlantis, among others. This reflects the hotel sector’s keenness to adopt energy-efficient technologies, in line with the UAE government’s initiatives to create a sustainable environment, the release said.
Bin Shafar stressed through the release that Empower is committed to providing highly efficient District Cooling services to the hospitality sector, as per the highest international standards and best practices. The hospitality industry, the release quoted him as saying, represents a large proportion of Dubai’s investments. We work in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai in supporting Dubai’s leading position in reducing carbon emissions and preserving the environment, Bin Shafar said through the release.
