Empower plugs into Dubai Metro Route 2020

District Cooling utility provides district cooling services to three stations on the route

DUBAI, UAE, 15 July 2020: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) is providing district cooling services at a capacity of 2,100 refrigeration tons (RT), to three stations in the AED 11 billion Route 2020 of Dubai Metro, which was recently inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President & Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai; H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and CEO and Chairman of the Emirates Group and H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Media Council, the district cooling provider said through a Press release.

According to the release, the Route 2020 project involves the 15-kilometre extension of the Dubai Metro Red Line from Jebel Ali Station to Expo 2020 Station, and links seven stations. Empower said it will provide its district cooling services to three stations, ‘Discovery Gardens’, ‘the Gardens’ and ‘Al Furjan’, from its Discovery Gardens plant that saves energy, increases efficiency and reduces carbon emissions.

Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO, Empower, said: “The proximity of a district cooling network and Empower’s plant, located near to the Route 2020, helped in providing district cooling services to the three stations. We have created exceptional projects and programs with the aim of combating the phenomena of environmental pollution and climate change and providing the regions with advanced cooling systems. These efforts support the Dubai Demand Side Management (DSM) Strategy, launched by Dubai with a target of 30% reduction in energy consumption by 2030. The strategy focuses on green building regulations, retrofitting of the existing buildings, district cooling and re-usage of wastewater.”

 

The Gardens Station, the second on Route 2020, is an elevated structure spanning 8,100 square metres in area and extending 168 metres in length. Discovery Gardens Station, the third on Route 2020, is an elevated structure spanning 8,600 square metres in area and extending 168 metres in length. Al Furjan Station is also an elevated structure spanning 8,400 square metres in area and extending 168 metres in length.
