Empower commences operations in third district cooling plant in Business Bay with capacity of 45,000 RT

Dubai, UAE: Empower has announced that it has commenced operations in its third Business Bay District Cooling plant. The company said that the plant, which has been constructed after an AED 186 million deal was signed in April 2015, took 12 months to complete, and will cover commercial and residential buildings in the entire Business Bay area, providing a total of 135,000 RT, including supply from its two other plants.

H.E. Ahmad Bin Shafar, Chief Executive Officer of Empower, has said that the third Business Bay plant followed the strict standards of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and it also uses Treated Sewage Effluent (TSE). Calling it a “world-class model”, he said that the new plant reflects “utmost efficiency” in District Cooling ever presented by the company, as it ensures reduced energy consumption for cooling operations, adopts sustainable technology of TSE and applies a standard distribution technology that ensures reliable service.

Empower claimed that the first plant was declared number one in following Dubai Executive Council’s directives on environmental sustainability, while the second was reportedly the first in Middle East to earn the gold rating of the v2009 system in LEED, the most recent rating classification employed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC).

“Empower’s network of District Cooling plants covers the vital Business Bay area, so we ensured the highest efficiency and availability around the clock to achieve customer satisfaction in residential and commercial facilities,” added Bin Shafar.
