DUBAI, UAE, 28 June 2022: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) joined the celebration of the World Refrigeration Day, on June 26. Making the announcement through a Press release, Empower said the Day aims to raise awareness and understanding among the general public of the significant role that the refrigeration and air conditioning industry play in modern life and society.

Ahmad Bin Shafar

Empower said that it marked the Day by urging developers and builders to adopt environmentally friendly District Cooling solutions that reduce carbon emissions and contribute to conserving the natural resources for the future generations to come. District Cooling systems have made revolutionary changes in the air conditioning industry, locally and internationally, as they reduce the use of fossil fuel-based energy, Empower said. District Cooling systems use up to 50% less electricity compared to conventional air conditioning systems, Empower added.

“As an optimal technical solution for reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, District Cooling systems have been proven rather effective in serving humanity at all levels”, Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO, Empower, said. “District cooling plays a vital role in preserving the environment, protecting natural resources and facing climate change hazards.

“Cooling is the essence of modern life. It enables people to live and work comfortably, saves lives, and empowers people to achieve. The need for cooling is ubiquitous, and although it goes unnoticed often, it touches life wonderfully, so cooling matters to us all. Explaining, in a rapidly warming world, cooling is vital to human health and prosperity.”

Bin Shafar called for promoting a culture of District Cooling and increasing the area and scope of its application, as it has become essential for helping human societies enjoy modern life without wasting resources or exposing public health and the environment to the perils of greenhouse gases emissions.

“Dubai is on a leading position in this regard,” Bin Shafar highlighted. “The city tops the international list of major District Cooling energy producers.” Empower said that it was established in 2003, and within a decade, it managed to become the world’s largest District Cooling services provider. The company added that it has gained worldwide recognition for its key role in shaping lifestyle in the environmentally friendly cities, and it has emerged at the international level after adopting artificial intelligence in operational and production processes, in addition to the 50% superiority of its systems over other traditional cooling solutions.

Empower said it is always after raising the environmental awareness of UAE residents regarding the importance of adopting an environmentally conscious lifestyle. This is to ensure the sustainability of resources for the future generations and realise sustainable development goals running, in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This strategy, the company said, aims to turn the Emirate into a global centre for clean energy and green economy, and into the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world.

Empower said it is one of the key partners of United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) for its global initiatives, ‘District Energy in Cities’ and ‘Cool Coalition’, which is a global multi-stakeholder network that connects a wide range of key actors from government, cities, international organisations, businesses, finance, academia and civil society groups to facilitate knowledge exchange, advocacy and joint action towards a rapid global transition to efficient and climate-friendly cooling.
