Dubai, UAE: “Around a third of food produced globally is either lost or wasted,” said Henry S Steffensen, Senior Marketing Manager at Danfoss. “And this generates about eight per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions annually.”

Steffensen was speaking on innovative cold chain practices and its significant role in preventing food loss, during his company’s participation at ‘Food Chain’, the 8th Middle East Cold Chain Food Safety Conference, held on April 5, 2017, at Meydan Hotel, Dubai.

Steffensen focused on the impact of food production and food waste on the global climate and how technologically advanced cold chain practices can help support UAE initiatives that address this issue.

During the event, Steffensen made a presentation, titled ‘Sustainable growth of the cold chain from technology to measurable results’, wherein, he also reinforced his company’s commitment towards UAE’s sustainability goals.

“As a global market leader in HVAC and refrigeration solutions,” he said, “Danfoss focuses on utilising progressive digital techniques and infrastructure to cover the entire cold chain from farm to fork, in order to meet the fast-growing global food demand. The event drew the participation of key players in the industry, including government planners, policy-makers, refrigeration consultants and contractors, facility owners, manufacturers and suppliers. Endorsed by the Dubai Municipality, the conference highlighted the critical role of 3PL companies in ensuring the success of EXPO 2020, the UAE Food Bank initiative and transport refrigeration and cold storage design and construction practices, among other key issues.
