Company says the add-on enables intelligent control strategies based on real-time outside air quality data, helping buildings adapt to changeable climate conditions
DUBAI, UAE, 28 November 2023: Carrier, a part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), announced the release of its latest i-Vu® weather forecasting add-on for the i-Vu building automation system. Making the announcement through a Press release, Carrier said, the add-on enables intelligent control strategies based on real-time outside air quality data, helping buildings adapt to changeable climate conditions.
According to Carrier, the i-Vu building automation system communicates with leading weather forecasting agencies, AccuWeather®, the U.S. National Weather Service and Environment Canada, with the weather add-on. The company added that ten-day hourly weather forecast data can be used to optimise energy-efficiency indoors and the use of water in irrigation systems outdoors. Carrier further said that during high pollution, such as wildfires with heavy smoke, the outdoor air quality data could be used to control how much outside air is allowed in the building to keep indoor environments safe and comfortable.
Mark Jones, Business Manager, Commercial HVAC Controls, Carrier, said: “Adding outdoor air quality data to our existing weather add-on eliminates the need for building owners to install costly outside air quality sensors. In the wake of an El Nino winter weather forecast and recent wildfires, the real-time outdoor air quality data allows the i-Vu system to react quickly to outdoor pollutants to improve indoor air quality, save energy, conserve water and keep occupants safe and comfortable.”
Carrier said that facilities professionals can create custom control strategies using the outdoor air quality data or deploy best-in-class ASHRAE Guideline 36 compliant control sequences that automatically adjust ventilation rates based on current and past data.
The weather add-on, Carrier said, retrieves air quality components, including fine particulate matter, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide. Moreover, Carrier said, it also retrieves hourly weather forecast data for temperature, dew point, wet bulb temperature and humidity, and the hourly precipitation forecast also includes rain, snow and ice, along with the wind conditions for direction, speed and gust. This data, the company added, can be used with predictive control strategies during climatic events to optimise indoor environments while helping to enhance sustainability and improve operational efficiency.
Carrier further said that the weather add-on is available as a subscription and is compatible with i-Vu Pro, i-Vu Cloud, and i-Vu Express, version 8 and later. For more information on the i-Vu building automation system, visit carrier.com.
