Students to contest in building full-size solar-powered houses, says ASHRAE official
Atlanta, Georgia, USA, October 3: ASHRAE will be association sponsor for the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2017, the society said through a Press communiqué. The event will be held from October 5 to 15 in Denver, Colorado, USA.
Sharing details of the competition, Kent Peterson, Presidential Member and Fellow at ASHRAE and competition judge, said: “The Solar Decathlon is a collegiate competition of 10 contests that challenge student teams to design and build full-size solar-powered houses, over the course of two years. The winning team will combine the best blends of design excellence and smart energy production with innovation, market potential, water and energy-efficiency.”
Peterson added the competition represented the future leaders and innovators of the built industry, and ASHRAE is eager to learn from their innovation while supporting them in achieving their goals.
Sheila Hayter, President-Elect and Fellow at ASHRAE and competition judge, added: “ASHRAE has a long history dedicated to sustainability and it’s encouraging to see the competition’s progression as the built industry continues to change and grow.
