ABU DHABI, UAE, 26 May 2023: ASHRAE Falcon Chapter, in association with Trane, will conduct a free seminar on twin topics, titled ‘Who Should Drive the Sustainability Bus – Indoor Environmental Quality or Energy?’ and ‘Three pillars for sustainable solutions’, on May 30 at Park Rotana, Abu Dhabi.

Robert Bean

Robert Bean, ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer, is Director of www.healthyheating.com, and founder of Indoor Climate Consultants Inc. He will lead the discussion on the first topic. Hassan Majari, Senior Equipment Manager, will lead the second. Majari has become a reference in designing innovative solutions that optimise energy consumption and minimise environmental impact, ASHRAE said.

Elaborating on the first topic, ASHRAE said efficiency programs seem to ignore the fact that the only reason why society uses energy in buildings is to condition people and generate domestic hot water. That would then lead people to think that all design ought to begin with the physiological and psychological needs of the occupants, ASHRAE said. However, in the real world, most energy efficiency programmes focus exclusively on enclosures and equipment and have superficial IEQ requirements. The hope is that the assembled systems will deliver the desired indoor climate with the modelled energy, ASHRAE said. The flaws in this approach are demonstrated in the poor results from thousands of post-occupancy evaluations. Following the seminar, ASHRAE said, participants will learn the human sciences behind thermal comfort and air quality and how energy and exergy efficiency are the natural outcomes from engineering the indoor environment using human factor design tools.

Elaborating on the second topic, ASHRAE said participants will expand their knowledge in HVAC industry, looking through the current trends and technologies and getting insight on how these technologies can positively affect the overall system efficiency.
