AREA develops logbook for record keeping under the F-Gas Regulation

Brussels, Belgium: According to press communiqué issued by AREA, the European association of refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump (RACHP) contractors, it has developed a simple spreadsheet that will serve as a tool for contractors and their clients to fulfil their record-keeping obligations under the F-Gas Regulation.

As per details available on Refcom website, the spreadsheet has been produced by Refcom, in association with AREA. The editable file, it said, helps automatically calculate CO₂ equivalents when users enter global warming potential (GWP) level and charge weight (in kilogramme).

The communiqué revealed that Article 6 of Regulation 517/2014 on F-gases requires operators of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, submitted to regular leak checking, to keep records for each piece of such equipment. The records, it added, contain comprehensive information related to the equipment and its refrigerant during installation, maintenance and repair, and at end of life.

The association said that to understand what was required under Article 6, and to simplify the procedure and encourage effective and responsible record keeping of fluorinated greenhouse gas use and movement, AREA has developed the spreadsheet for contractors to use in order to keep their own, and their client’s, records up-to-date, and in line with regulatory requirements.

The association informed that the AREA Logbook can be downloaded for free from its website.
