All certification programmes will be under one logo

The Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) has announced that the globally recognised certification programme is making an important transition: as of January 1, 2012, all certification programmes formerly under AHRI’s certification umbrella – ARI Performance Certified, GAMA Energy Efficiency Rating Certified, and the I=B=R programme (for hydronic heating equipment) – will be brought under one certification programme and logo. It will be known as AHRI Certified®. Until January 1, 2014, the I=B=R mark can be displayed simultaneously with the AHRI Certified mark, the announcement added.

According to AHRI, its familiar logo and certification markers will gradually disappear from the scene, and will be replaced by the new AHRI Certified logo, which provides the same level of performance assurance contractors and specifiers have come to expect from AHRI’s programmes. It assured that only the logo had changed, and that the equipment performance claims will still be independently measured and verified, providing consumer confidence and enabling fair product comparisons.

AHRI added that its certification programme is voluntary and is open to manufacturers of HVACR and water heating equipment and components and to private brand marketers that produce or market products within the scope of one or more of the certification programmes.

The institute claimed that its 37 certifications programmes provide accurate and unbiased evaluation to ensure that manufacturers’ performance claims are authentic. It further stated that AHRI’s certification programme is recognised by the Department of Energy (DOE), the Energy Protection Agency (EPA), Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), and California Energy Commission (CEC).
