Information gathered on potential safety issues and hazards to inform future Commission risk management work, organisation says
Bethesda, Maryland, United States, 25 May 2018: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently conducted a public hearing to receive information from all interested parties about potential safety issues and hazards associated with internet connected consumer products, the organisation announced via a Press communiqué.
The information received from the public hearing will be used to inform future Commission risk management work, the communiqué said. All Commissioners were present for, and fully engaged in, the hearing, the communiqué further said. Common themes discussed included the need for inter-agency cooperation and for the United States to be a leader in this space, the communiqué added.
According to CPSC, several speakers expressed the urgent need for standards or regulation, stating their view that all IoT devices should be subject to a “Baseline of Reasonable Security.” The communiqué said comments are due to CPSC by June 15, 2018.
