Dubai, UAE: Engr Essa Al Hashmi, Undersecretary Assistant of Environmental Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, gave the Keynote Address at the 4thAnnual Middle East Variable Refrigerant Flow Conference, which began on Monday in Dubai, UAE. Al Hashmi spoke of how the UAE government is leading efforts to bring about transformation in energy use, keeping in mind the need to address climate change.

The country’s INDC, he said, is centred on a clean energy target of 24% by 2021, which he added was in the context of economic diversification. The country, he said, would be relying on nuclear power, renewable energy, improvement in the oil and gas sector and energy efficiency, among others, to achieve the target. Al Hashmi said that the contribution of the HVAC industry was highly significant to meet the energy efficiency goals and that the government was looking forward to working with the industry.
